Portfolio Highlights

Welcome to the highlights of my portfolio.

I have chosen a few of my favorite projects which i feel best reflect my intrest and skills.

You will find both standalone and applied music.

Genres include Jazz fusion, Rock, Metal, Electronic, Fantasy, Classical.

Shooting Stars Soundtrack

Shooting Stars is an immersive video game designed for a 360 dome with a 7.1 speaker system. I did the sound design, music, multichannel mix and audio implementation for this project.

In this paragraph i want to highlight just the stereo mixdown of the boss battle music.

You can read more about the entire project by pressing the button below.

For this project we wanted to juxtapose the innocent and corny experience of an astroid shooter with Horror-like sound and visuals.

The moment I heard horror and space I was immediatly inspired by the Mick Gordon Doom(2016) soundtrack. This resulted in the following track.

Formula 1 AD Pitch

For a school project I was giving the task of scoring a Formula 1 promotion video.

Part of the assignment was to step away as far as possible from the traditional Formula 1 sound and to put your own fingerprint on the project.

So I decided to go for a bigband jazz rock fusion track.

I did this because I knew I would be able to use the horns to mark cues in the video very effectively.

I also wanted to make use the association between Mario Kart and jazz fusion to give the video the usual F1 vibe.

Additionally I wanted to give video a 'cool' and laidback feeling to give Max verstappen the swagger he deserves.

For this I borrowed inspiration from the GTA San Andreas Theme.

Im quite pleased with the end result and the way it syncs with the video, but im not sure it fits the Formula 1 brand enough.

This production was acomplished with sample instruments for the drums and horns.

The guitar, bass and keyboard were performed by me.

Production was done in Reaper.

Ambient Rose

Ambient Rose is a late night synthesizer improvisation that started as a school assignement.

It is an experimetnation with a synthesizer that was mapped to be as expressive as possible on a keyboard as possible.

Addutionally i experimented with 7 different delays and glitch generators that interact with eachother.

Fantasy March

Fantasy March is a composition I wrote for my auditions for HKU Music & Technology.

It was meant as videogame music.

Its inspired by contrasting emotions on a battlefield.

Kamer Collectief

Kamer Collectief is a musical group formed by Samuel Brouwer, Ewout Veling, Jules de Smit and me.

We met at HKU and formed this concept while jamming late into the night.

Our concept is to invite small local singer songwriters and to write and record an alternate, live version of one of their songs.

This all happens on the spot without perparation which makes the process very fun and exciting(and stressfull).

On the right you can see our first edition of Kamer Collectief together with Nove and her song, Creeping you

Mix, production and video by Samuel Brouwer

Drums by Ewout Veling

Keys by Jules de Smit

Guitar by Bram van Gool

Sorrow

I wrote Sorrow the day that my dog passed away, there was a melody that I just could not get out of my head.

This is what formed the basis that would become Sorrow.
I used this piece at my auditions for HKU Music & Technology
